Let Us…#3

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.
Heb. 10:24 NIV*

And let us consider and give attentive,
continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up
(stimulate and incite)
to love and helpful deeds and noble activities,
Hebrews 10:24 AMP**
Plain and simple:  we need each other. That’s what the “let us” of this week pertains to.

Just this weekend the Lord sent a  reminder of this very “let us.” My former spiritual mentor is a special lady, and she’s the one He sent to accomplish the “reminder bidding” and help me get back on track. The Lord brought us together in 1998 in Florida and He has used her to continually stir, encourage and incite me. The miles apart were nothing as she attentively watched over me when the depths of darkness were seemingly larger than life. I always knew she was behind the scenes praying, praying and praying some more even if we were miles apart. In fact, silly as it sounds, I would ask God to have her praying for me when life felt heavy, when it felt as though my prayers were powerless.  (That was such a lie of the enemy, but that’s for another post.)

Whether it was in person, over the phone, via email or in the mailbox, the Lord always seemed to give her words that would lift, words that would lovingly convict and words that proved He knew right where I was.  Her actions would spur me into action, whether it was immediately or years later. Those actions still linger in memory’s file cabinet and are pulled for use often now as the Lord brings ladies into life’s path so that I can pass on the continuous care, the stirring and inciting for His glory.

I praise God for this mentor in my life. I know she considered and gave attentive, continuous care toward me. There is much fruit to bear witness, and all glory goes to the Lord, for it is by His strength that all this came into being.

How about you, friend?  Are you inciting and stirring others toward love and helpful deeds? Are you that mentor who will give attentive, continuous care for the cause of Jesus? Maybe you’re in need of someone to stir you and speak those words of truth.  It really doesn’t matter where we are on the maturity scale; we all need others to spur us toward love and good deeds. We all need those others who will pray for us, speak the words of encouragement, or be brutally honest as the Lord leads. We need each other.

Take this week and lift your voice to God. Ask Him what His heart is in the matter and how you can consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over others. Ask Him how He desires you to stir up others to love and helpful deeds as well as noble activities. Ask Him if it’s time to step up to mentoring…or if there is someone who will mentor you. Ask Him….our Lord is reliable and faithful.

Just as Barbara was used mightily in my life, and still is eleven years later to spur me toward love and good deeds, the Lord will use others to spur you. And, He will use you to spur many in return if you allow Him.  Press in and be encouraged my friend…and stir, stir, stir!

Much Love,
Kristi
