#ScriptureBank2016, Week 32

5th Monday

It’s the 5th Monday in August. We’re “off” this week for memory verses, but we’re wholly “on” for encouragement in ways to grow.

Below are 3 methods I use to hide God’s word in my heart.

What methods do you use for memorizing scripture?

I’ll be honest, unless I follow through, the scriptures flutter away. It’s more like they’re scribbled on a post-it that takes off with the wind. But when I follow through, often using these tools, the verses are banked for future use. They’re set to memory, and it’s good.

1. Scripture Notebook

This is a picture of my notebook. (Why do I feel like a 2nd grader at show and tell right now?) 🙂

How to Use a Scripture Notebook:

~ Print the verse/prayer on our trusty printer then place the scripture in a notebook. Verses gather on the left, matching prayers (from the following week) slide into sleeves on the right.

~ Flip through the notebook daily, following the words with your finger while reciting the verses.

Note: The notebook needn’t be this large. The verses glued onto index cards or printed on cardstock then gathered with a binder clip or binder ring will work as well.

2. Write It Out

Example of writing out Scripture on KristiWoods.net

Welcome to my daily “to-do” list.

At the bottom of each page, a section awaits for the current week’s verse. I simply write it as in addition to the reference – daily. (Ok, so “most” days is probably more realistic.)  Directly underneath is an area to write out the previous week’s verse.

All-in-all, I scribble 2 verses per day – “most” days. 😉 As the week progresses, I try to write more of it from memory with a goal of “all” before the next #Scripturebank hits the blogosphere.

BONUS: There’s a freebie coming…

You know that “to-do” list mentioned above? The i’s are being dotted and the t’s crossed on its creation. I’m making one just for you! A free “to-do” list will be offered soon for subscribers only. So don’t delay, sign up today and look for your freebie later this fall.

3. Investigate How Others Memorize Scripture

~ Blogs

Others often have valid, helpful ideas. Take Lisa at True and Faithfulhere’s a read from her blog. It’s the child’s candy land of memorization ideas.

~ Pinterest

And then there’s this: Pinterest!

(Do you hear the hand clapping, a girl giddy with excitement? I luuuuv Pinterest.)

To make life easy, I’ve pinned ideas from around the blogosphere on this board. (You’ll also find past #ScriptureBank verses pinned here as well.) Dig in, my friend, and have a memorization ball!

Regardless of the memorization method, consider hiding God’s word a priority, okay? Let’s encourage one another to keep trying different methods until we find the one that works for us. His word banked deep in a person’s heart is life-changing. It’s a clear battle win over darkness.

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. PS 119:11 NLT Click To Tweet

  1. For a girl who never even had scripture memory on her radar growing up, it is flat out a GIFT to have God’s Word so ready in my thoughts. In all reality, it’s probably one of the top life-changers for me. it makes me want even more…though I’ll admit it’s a battle to fight for time and *mental space* for it. <3
