Sweeping Away the Past

Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV*

Sometimes they rise with a vengence, drawing us to war without realization. We battle and battle and battle, finally realizing that we don’t have to sit amid the stress and destruction of this war.

It’s the battle with our past.

There are times where strongholds of the past will position themselves like a cat on a perch, ready to attack its prey.  They pounce and draw their claws deep as we are thrown off balance and find ourselves spiritually wounded by the puncture.  We sit on the merry-go-round of beating ourselves up for past strongholds & offenses and the cat has its day.  Our minds wrestle with the thoughts of, “See, you really can’t do it.”  Or, we’ll hear, “You’re no good.  Look at all you’ve done wrong.”

They are lies,
awaiting their opportunity to tighten their grip upon us.

It’s time to look toward that trusty broom, the One that sweeps away all the past and brings us into the land of new, to begin its work.  We don’t have to be what our family “is.” We don’t have to be what we’ve always walked in. We don’t have to be our past.  If that were the case, there’d be no power in the cross.  We’d all go to hell without the hope of change in Christ.

Instead, we can allow the Lord to sweep away the past, sweeping away those thoughts of criticalness, unworthiness, inability and the likes.  We can have the past swept clean, allowing our focus to be on Abba Father and His “new.”

Today, let’s stop thinking on the past and turn our thoughts to Abba Father, praising and thanking Him with all our hearts. Let’s pray with fervency and trust with wholeheartedness. Let’s walk in “today,” let’s walk in His new.

Be encouraged.

with love,
Kristi
