Just reeeee-each a little further….
My thighs pressed harder against the top rung while fingers wiggled forward. Meanwhile, my left hand clutched the ladder for security reassurance. I couldn’t risk a fall.
With one last stretch, I grasped the plump, red piece of fruit, pulling it from it’s twig. Success! The cherry dropped dutifully into the plastic bowl.
That was one year ago. I stood atop the ladder at Mom’s, picking cherries, helping in any way I could. Dad was sick, dying eventually on October 31. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep him alive – none of us could.
Looking back, it’s easy to correlate that cherry-picking effort with life.
I strained and strained, almost to the point of harm, for that prized cherry. What I didn’t realize is that just above my head was a ripe cherry, awaiting the pick. It was so easy.
If only I had looked up…..
After Dad died, I found myself looking down often. Grief was a bear.
Let’s face it, life troubles sometimes come upon us like grizzly mamas with cubs in tow, ready and willing to tear us apart.
~ Financial woes
~ Marriage difficulities
~ The death of a loved one
~ A vision ripe with envy
~ A tussle with forgiveness.
But I believe we can find help in a cherry.
What if we simply look up?
When we stretch & strain with life's troubles, a look Above offers the fruit of true help. Click To Tweet
When we look above, to God Almighty, trusting in His comfort, provision, and love, we are helped. Instead of the strain and stress of continual reaching, a simple look above brings a solution and communion with the God of Help.
“Help” may not come instantaneously. It may take time. But trust held in the One who offers true comfort and help is assured.
Below is a scripture to support and encourage our “look up”. Feel free to print this one and the one above as you face life’s troubles.
God’s got your back. He’s help.
