It’s A Trust Thing

“Seek the counsel of the Lord!” was the cry of Jehoshaphat. Fair enough.

.

Ahab proceeds to those “candy men” of his they called prophets and received the word, just as he desired.

.

Jehoshaphat calls again “Is there not a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of?”

.

Oh, um, er…….there is one, “but I hate him,” King Ahab exclaims. Why? Because he, Micaiah, has the audacity to trust the Lord and speak only the truth concerning Ahab, which isn’t good.

.

Micaiah never prophesies anything good about Ahab. How can it he? King Ahab serves and worships Baal…he provokes the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger. He’s on the wrong path.

.

Micaiah is mighty in trust when it comes to the Lord.

.

“Just say what we want to hear and what 400 others have said.” That’s basically what the messenger told Micaiah when he was summoned. And, Micaiah stood firm and told Ahab the doom and gloom the Lord had shown him.

.

It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t nice, yet it was the truth. Obviously Ahab had been given warnings before and did not heed them. He said Micaiah never prophesied anything good about him. Hello?! Those were opportunities to seek the Lord and change his ways. He somehow missed those flashing neon signs. Micaiah couldn’t prophesy anything nice because Ahab was in the midst of “not nice.”

I’m thankful for Micaiah. He was a great teaching lesson for our kids…and me!…this week. Micaiah was pressured to go with the crowd and speak the nice things people want to hear, yet he stood tall to this and trusted in the Lord. It meant speaking difficult words and seeing troubling visions, and it ended in imprisonment, yet it was beauty in the eyes of the Lord and great encouragement to me as a mother.

Now, I know it might be a long shot, but you’re probably asking “what in the world does this Bible story have to do with my husband and son on the swing?” (the picture above) It’s a trust thing. Husband encouraged son to join him on the swing, although son wasn’t totally comfortable. As they began to swing, I could hear son saying “Daddy, I’m scared.” He wasn’t used to swinging in this fashion, yet he was in the lap of his father….a trustworthy place to be. Like Micaiah, we all have those “riding in the lap of our Father” situations, a place where we might be a titch uncomfortable as we “hang on for the ride.” Yet, like Micaiah, be encouraged and remember that He is faithful, oh so faithful. Stand tall, stand firm as you trust our faithful King.
