I was focused…on my way.
My friend, Dixie, was eager to spend time with me. Doesn’t your heart just melt, thinking about those beagle eyes (ok, so she’s only 1/2 beagle….) staring up, calling out, “Oh pleeeeeeze, won’t you pet me? Or how about a walk, purrty pleeeze?” She desired to draw close and enjoy our relationship, yet I was so busy with “my” thing that her pleas were well ignored. (The poor thing eventually did get a walk and pet out of me, so she’s now a happy doggie.)
All of this made me think of our Lord, wondering how many times I’ve been so “busy” with my agenda that I’ve failed to look up and see Him standing alongside, awaiting my focus. He is faithful to wait. You see, He is compassionate and slow to anger.
It can be oh so easy to do, sprinting down the lane of busyness or the path of selfish plans, all while forgetting to turn from our plans. Yet, He waits. Just like my dog, He waits so patiently for us to turn away from “our” thing so He can lavish His love upon us. Shall we allow Him?
