Out of the Overflow

You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good?
For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him,
and the evil man brings evil things out the evil stored up in him.
But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment
for every careless word they have spoken.
For by your words you will be acquitted,
and by your words you will be condemned.
Matthew 12:34-37 NIV*

It’s one of those scriptures you read over and over again as life goes on as normal…and then it hits.  “It” is revelation from the Holy Spirit, resulting in a scripture that BOOMS to life with clarity and power. No longer is the scripture a read-only file, but it now becomes a live, open document where editing becomes empowerment and correction.  With each click of the keys, the Holy Spirit rewrites the document, bringing clarity and ownership to the piece of work that is His: our heart.

Recently the Lord threw open the floodgates of revelation in my own life. It was a revelation that saddened and somewhat horrified me initially. I had been praying for some time about the words of my mouth; they weren’t always what He was calling them to be. Being prone to a quick tongue, I knew it was a marred spot in the walk of a Christian. I longed for it to be taken away, quoting Scripture in hopes that somehow, someway it would change.  Yet, each week would bring its own level of stress and I would eventually cave to the temptation, allowing the words of curtness to roll with ease and speed off my tongue. The spiral into, “Will you ever get past this?” continued as scripture felt lifeless.

In the midst, though, my Lord heard.  He is my help and my salvation and ever so faithful!  There is no one else by whom I will be saved… or you too…not for eternity and not from the temptation of curt words.

The revelation of how serious those words were sprung to life as the power of my Healer and His scripture became a force to be reckoned with. I came to realize the words were not the problem but were actually an indicator of something deeper: a  heart problem. It was like I had been trying to put a band aid on an operation-worthy injury. They, the words, were an overflow of what was truly in my heart, as they oozed forth the goo of darkness. They were only a symptom, as there was a much greater problem brewing underneath.

It was gut-wrenching to realize the content wasn’t so pretty, and its removal became paramount because I feared the Lord and this separation that contended against His love. I immediately sprinted into the arms of my Lord, asking for my heart to be healed.  This was serious. It was a heart issue, the very organ that pumps life to the rest of the body.

I needed the Great Physician! He came to my need and healed that hurt as soon as I asked. He healed the darkness as His Light fell upon it, and the heavy burden was lifted. There was a change in the words, a change like I could never muster alone.  My Lord’s love and strength were necessary and proved oh so faithful.

Our God is a faithful god. He can heal your heart just as easily as mine.  Whether it’s a need for a Savior, speaking forth those words of salvation, or the darkened heart of a Christian, like me, who has run the race for some time, He’s faithful to heal hearts. Run to Him, won’t you if the overflow isn’t so pretty? He’ll take those words and turn them into joy and encouragement. He’ll turn your words into life.

Father,
I come to You today, asking for revelation.  Show me Your ways and shed Your Light upon those heavy burdens that overflow from my heart. Change my words and bring joy and Your healing to my life so I might worship you truly in spirit and in truth. I thank You, Holy Lord.
In Jesus’ powerful name, Amen.

If you need the words of salvation, if you desire a savior and the certainty of healing for eternity, if must know where you’ll head after death on earth, He’ll guide you. Please take this step of certainty, won’t you?

In Jesus’ talk with Nicodemus, He said that we must be born again to enter the kingdom of Heaven. You see, there are no darkened hearts there...everything is healed and whole in Heaven. He promises no hurts, tears or bad stuff.  If Jesus is your Savior, then He’ll take care of the dark spots, guiding and protecting you.  However, being born again is a necessity prior to Heaven. Are you certain you are heaven-bound by the blood of Jesus’ sacrifice? You can quote scripture, go to church and even volunteer for various ministries, but unless you have Jesus, you don’t have Heaven. He, and only He, died for you, so you could have the ultimate healing for eternity.  Won’t you accept His certainty?

If you’d like that assurance, simply ask Him. Jesus is faithful to accept our request, no conditions required except a heart that’s ready to be healed.

Jesus, come into my heart and heal me. Forgive the sins I’ve committed that I might worship You in spirit and in truth instead. I want You as my Savior and Heaven as a certainty in my life. Thank You, Jesus.  In your name I pray, Amen.

If you’ve prayed either of these prayers, I’d love to hear from you so that I might pray for you.  Consider emailing me…you’ll find a link to do this on the right hand side of the blog.  Be encouraged my friends as you celebrate this brand new day.

HIS,
Kristi
